Biodiversity
The expression “biological diversity” –or “biodiversity”- makes reference to the quantity and variety of alive organisms that live in the planet. It is defined in terms of genes, species and ecosystems.

Ecological damage
It is the alteration, diminution and detriment of the ecosystems and their components, caused by the external human action.

Sustainable development
Changes process that point to satisfied actual and future generation's necessities. The concept of “sustainable development” involves economic, social and ecological dimensions.

Eco-regions
An eco-region is a geographical territory defined by quite uniform and constant geomorphologic and climatic conditions.

Environmental Impact Evaluation
It is a methodology designed to identify, predict and prevent biological, physical and socio-cultural impact in the ambient, and also develops activities, projects and politics to be implemented.

Natural Monument
The Natural monuments are areas, things or alive species like animals and plants with esthetical, historical and scientific value that have absolute protection.

National Park
National Parks are protected areas that are keeping in their natural state. They are representative of a “fitozoogeografica” region and have scientific interests.

National Reserve
National Reserves are areas that interested for ecological system conservation, the maintenance of protected areas near National Parks, or the creation of new independents conservation zones, when the situation requires or admits the National Park regimen.

Educative Natural Reserve
An Educative Natural Reserve is an area that gives special opportunities for environmental education or interpretation of the natural and cultural heritage because of its particularities or location close to the strict natural reserves.

Strict Natural Reserve
A Strict Natural Reserve is a significant area because of their exceptional ecosystems, their natural communities, and their flora and fauna species, which needs protection for scientific objectives. The human interference is reduced. It is applied for national protected areas that already exist, and for portion of them or areas specially created.

Buffer area
It is the area that connect the protected area to it environment, trying to link people-resources in a sustainable development context.
